I found myself very frustrated with the way many applications handle fonts. The simply add them to a font menu irregardless of whether you have 12 to 500. I didn't like this as trying to find a font is difficult when your are dragging across a font menu that scrolls up and down across serveral hundred items. Even the WYSIWYG implementations didn't look to good. Oftentimes, it would seem easier to just create a document with all the fonts and print it out. A waste of paper I think.
FontMancer addresses my desire to see a font list be displayed in a scrollable list. No mouse dragging is requried. It also contain a sample of the font in the same window, so there is no need to print. (In fact, FontMancer has no print function.) FontMancer supports user settings of different font sizes, and styles. It supports type ahead so if you know the first few characters in the font name type them in. FontMancer handles the end,home,pageup, and pagedown keys. The sample phrase is user changeable and the application is display manager savvy. (Provided it is version 2.0 or later)
